The celebrations started already last year with the 50<sup>th<\/sup> annual National congress on air pollution prevention and climate issues. The anniversary year has included anniversary seminar series on current hot topics, namely residential wood combustion and rising climate topics, and will include a networking event for students and experts. The year will culminate in 50<sup>th<\/sup> anniversary seminar with most prominent national experts on the air quality and climate topics, followed naturally by anniversary dinner and party.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Since the beginning, the Society has strengthened the knowledge base of Finnish experts on air pollution (and later including climate) issues. Sharing information between researchers, experts and civil servants in academia, research institutes, industry and government, the Society has brought people working on the issues together and enabled open and fruitful discussions on the topics. Collaboration between all actors across the society has been one of the most important success stories of the Society. Today, the work goes on through congresses, professional magazine and study tours organized annually. And, not least, through the active members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"150\" height=\"205\" class=\"wp-image-1058\" style=\"width: 150px;\" src=\"https:\/\/efca.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/IMG-20260520-WA0004.jpg\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/efca.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/IMG-20260520-WA0004.jpg 621w, https:\/\/efca.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/IMG-20260520-WA0004-220x300.jpg 220w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/>The Society appointed new secretary in June, with Emma Vuorio replacing long-term secretary Hanne V\u00e4ist\u00f6. Ville-Veikko Paunu was chosen as the president from beginning of 2025, as long-time president Anu Kousa stepped down after 8 years. Maija Leino continues as the vice president.
