Exploring Pollutants of Emerging Concern with Net4Cities

Net4Cities is a European research project focused on improving our understanding and monitoring of pollutants of emerging concern in urban areas, with a focus on transport sources. By deploying monitoring capacity at multiple sites in 11 European cities, the project is generating data for key parameters such as noise, air quality (e.g., ultrafine particles, ammonia), and traffic, helping cities design more sustainable and healthier urban environments.

As part of this effort, we are organising a series of webinars to share expertise, lessons learned, and good practices from across the network. Our second webinar on noise, taking place on 11 December at 10:00, will focus on noise measurement technologies, featuring experts from Cirrus and DLR who will discuss the range of technologies, from class 1 to low-cost sensors, deployment strategies, and data applications. Register here.

Recordings from the first two webinars—on measurement instrumentation for ultrafine particles (UFP) and lung-deposited surface area (LDSA) (link), and on experiences from the extensive noise monitoring network in Barcelona and the importance of noise for health (link). Additional sessions are planned for next year, including one on noise modelling and analysis, as well as nature-based solutions and UFP.
